I knew Akibo was a great athlete... in his younger years. =P I loved hearing stories about his rugby playing, aikido practice... I thought his athletic days were behind him though. I, on the other hand, was in the peak of my triathlon training and had been swimming a lot when Akibo challenged me to a swim race. "No sweat" I thought. Over lunchtime one day (2008), we went over to the roof-top pool at UCSF Mission Bay. The race was to be just one lap - a measure of pure speed. 1.. 2.. 3.. Go! I went out hard and gave everything I had. When I got to the other side and popped my head out, there was Akibo in the lane next to me, already waiting for me, with a huge Akibo-smile on his face. He still had it.
